Play continues with each player moving by splitting any of their stacks and moving the new stack to a new pasture. You must leave at least one sheep on the space on which the original stack was standing. On your turn, move any stack of your own sheep by splitting the stack into two parts, moving the top part of the stack in a straight line as far as it can go before hitting another sheep or the border. A different playing board is assembled before every game, making the game full of new challenges every time you play! Plan your moves carefully to occupy the most pastures and fence out your foe. To make the game less competitive, player do not get “out.” Instead, if the captain notices that they do not follow an order, they must stand out for a count of 20.Opposing sheep herds go head to fluffy head in a strategy game the whole family will love! Players who can’t find partners or who are too slow are eliminated.Īlternative rules: If playing in a pool, all of the orders stay the same except for “hit the deck” which becomes “walk the plank.” This means that crew members must bob underwater. Row the Boat: Each player finds a partner, sits face to face, holds hands, and pretends to row a boat.Starboard: Run to the right side of the boat.Sick turtle: Everyone falls onto their backs and waves hands and feet in the air.The players who are the odd-man-out are eliminated. Three maids in a row: Children form groups of three and sit in a vertical row. Those without partners or who assemble the crow’s nest too slowly are eliminated. The lightest player rides on their partner’s back. Crow’s nest: All players must find a partner. The last player to the base is eliminated. SHARK!!!!: Everyone must run to a designated base (multiple bases can be used).A Periscope: Every player falls on their back and sticks one leg in the air.Children without a partner or pairs that are too slow are eliminated. One partner must lay on their stomach while the other places their foot on their partner’s back. Man-over-board: Players must find a partner as quickly as possible.Captain’s Quarters: everyone ran towards the captain.Scrub the deck: everyone on their knees scrubbing.Clear the deck: everyone must have their feet up off the floor. The love boat: crew members grab a partner and dance.

Since the original was split into episodes, this dumb writer lost his flashlight and guns every time something bad happened. As someone who just finished Alan Wake - that game is dated as hell. In a blog post, Remedy states that there will be “psychological horror elements” as well.Īt the very least, I hope we get a healthy amount of guns and that the gameplay is drastically improved. That’s what I imagine the jump might be like, although I do think Alan Wake 2 will be scarier than most Resident Evil games. The former is more action-packed, and the latter is spookier and makes you work for those extra resources. If you’re a fan of Resident Evil games, a good comparison would be thinking of Alan Wake as Resident Evil Village and Alan Wake 2 as Resident Evil 7. But you’re stuck with me, so you get my analogy. Remedy calls Alan Wake 2 a survival horror game, so what does that mean in terms of gameplay compared with the original game? Well, genres can be super ambiguous, so if you ask two different people you’ll get two different answers. I would love nothing more than to run around in a haunted New York City landscape. That makes sense since Alan Wake is from NYC, and the original game took place in Bright Falls. In the teaser trailer, we also see visual cuts jumping from Bright Falls to New York City, which means those might be the two settings for Alan Wake 2. Of course, that’s not Alan Wake (probably), and that’s in fact Mr. Scratch being the villain is the jump cut in the trailer where we see Alan Wake bearing his teeth, covered in blood. Scratch (Alan Wake’s double created by Cauldron Lake) is still out there, which likely also means that on top of having to escape the dark place, Alan has to deal with Mr. This cookie, set by YouTube, registers a unique ID to store data on what videos from YouTube the user has seen. That means Mr. YouTube sets this cookie to store the video preferences of the user using embedded YouTube video. I didn’t even see a trail to where you could go take photos of the lower, upper falls.Īfter taking a few photos, we headed back out. You can get some different shots looking up at the falls. But, that trail was even more challenging, so we chose just to take photos where you come out from the main trail. I saw that there was a trail to the right of the falls and people were getting to the top. The waterfall was as I had remembered it from a few years ago. The trail gets a little wet and slippery just before you arrive at the falls. The trail becomes rooty, rocky, and a little steep in spots. There was a spot where you could pretty much just walk across the creek without getting your shoes too wet. It ends up that when we were heading back, that we really didn’t have to rock hop the bigger creek crossing. You go through a portion of the trail where probably about 1 to 2/10 of a mile, you are dodging lots of mud. So, we head off to the right at the split and head towards Upper Falls. Once you take off to the upper falls, it’s pretty much not maintained. The trail, up until you get to the split where you take off to the right to Upper Falls, is maintained. There are boardwalks built along the trail. The trail ends up leveling out for a while. The trail starts out a tad rough and they have wooden fencing along the trail. The sign will direct you to the left to head to the falls and “Graveyard Fields”. When you take the steps down by the new pit toilet area and eventually cross the river on the boardwalk, you will come to the upper / lower falls split. If you complete the loop, it ends up being approximately 3.2 miles round trip. We had lunch in the car and then got out and took some photos. Right before you get to Graveyard Fields (if you’re coming from Asheville), there is a long pulloff on the right that has some pretty incredible views. We decided that it wouldn’t be comfortable sitting out at a picnic table. It was in the 40’s and windy on the parkway. On our way to Graveyard Fields, we were looking for a place to have our little picnic lunch. On that previous trip, we only went to Lower Falls because prior to coming to Graveyard Fields, we had stopped at Skinny Dips Falls. We were up at Graveyard Fields back in July. I’ll go back and play catch up later on our end of summer walks / hikes. I’m skipping ahead because by golly I want to post my fall pictures in the fall instead of around Thanksgiving or Christmas. The first weekend of this month was the first weekend of getting out to enjoy the fall / changing of the leaves. I’m about 2 months behind on posting our walks / hikes. Okay, I’m doing something here that is so unlike me. With this sort of argument, we can prove more rigorously that there is a measure polytope which exists in every dimension. This polytope is the famous hypercube.įurthermore, since n-space is defined by n orthogonal bases, it should be clear that one can construct a polytope with n edges meeting at a vertex, each parallel to a base, and so each perpendicular to one another. If we take a unit cube, and slide it in a direction perpendicular to all six faces, we would generate the measure polytope for 4-space, having four edges meet at a vertex, each perpendicular to the other three. There are two perpendicular edges meeting at each corner of the square, and three perpendicular edges meeting at each corner of the cube. If we look at the vertex of any measure polytope, we see an edge coming from it parallel to each of the orthogonal bases of the vector-space. (This is the reason bricks are shaped the way they are.) Just as line-segments can be placed end-to-end to fill 1-space, and squares can be laid edge-to-edge to fill the plane, cubes can be placed together neatly to fill all of 3-space. We speak of volume as being in cubic units (e.g., ). Sliding the square one unit in a direction perpendicular to its face sweeps out a cube, the measure polyhedron. This sweeps out a square of side-length 1, with which we measure area. You can think of generating it by first moving a point one unit in one of the base directions (say, along the x-axis), then turning perpindicular to it and sliding the whole line segment one unit in the orthogonal base direction (the y-axis). In 2-space, the measure polytope is a square. The measure of any region of the line can be expressed as a real number times the unit length, that is, the measure polytope of side-length 1. (1-space is a rather boring topic of discussion, but is included for consistency.) In 1-space, we measure content in terms of length. The measure polytope in a line is a line-segment, which is the same as its simplex. The reason this type of polytope is referred to as a "measure" is this: it is the unit in each space in which we measure. Though a simplex is, as the name suggests, a simpler polytope, it is the measure polytope with which we generally feel most comfortable. Perhaps its popularity is due to the easy regularity with which it is constructed. In one piece, an architect builds a house which folds up into 4-space, so that its occupants can continuously walk in any direction from one room into each of the other seven. It has even made its way into popular fiction in one form or another. The so-called hypercube, or 4-cube, is undoubtedly the most familiar and frequently discussed polytope in a higher dimension. The data structure used for the 4-polytope is a list of a list of vertices, whose coordinates are defined above, a list of polygons given by the number of their vertices, and a list of cells given by the number of their polygons. The eight cells of the hypercube are each cubes. They are given by their vertices.į:=: f:=: The 24 polygons of the hypercube are each squares. Multpoly is a procedure which take a polytope P and a rotation matrix M and multiplies each of the vertices (thought of as column matrices) by M, generating a rotation about some vector v. This defines the polytope by its faces, allowing polygonplot3D to display it. Polydecode is a procedure which takes a polytope P and lists the coordinates of the vertices of each polygonal face. Other values may create the same problem. Values must be greater than 1, and this often results in a division by 0. Smaller values of f will generate a greater perspective effect in the projection. Thus, the effects of perspective will be minimal. For large values of f, the object will be perspected as if it were viewed from far away (though no smaller). Perspproj is a procedure which takes a polytope P, a vector v, and a real number f, and projects the vertices of P onto the hyperplane orthogonal to v, with a perspective distance factor of f. Project is a procedure which takes a polytope P and a vector v and projects the vertices of P onto the hyperplane orthogonal to v. These are the libraries of commands needed to execute the procedures below. You may need to scroll back to read the text which precedes each display. Maple will then take you to the first line of the next execution group. In order to keep the text uninterupted, placing the cursor on the first line of commands (in red) will execute all procedures necessary to define the polytope. These are the procedures necessary to generate the various images of the hypercube. “We knew the Shedd would do a good job keeping us safe,” Julie Chan said. “It’s nice not to feel so elbow-to-elbow,” he said. His family were museum members and had visited a number of times before, including in summers this was their first Phase 4 outing to an indoor attraction. Asked what brought them to the Shedd on the first morning it opened, Andy Chan laughed through his mask. If you still want absolute solitude, go look at the river fish. “You could backtrack but really nobody ever did,” she said.Īndy and Julie Chan of Northfield found a quiet spot with their young children by the rivers exhibit. But that’s not as out-of-place as it seems, Coughlin said, the Wild Reef exhibit has always effectively been one way, with the elevator guiding where guests enter. Staff members carried large signs, crossing-guard style, only with the message “Ask Me.” Every individual hall and exhibit was marked with a linear, one-way path with an entrance and exit. More than a dozen visitors gathered close to the otter tank, a zig-zag of ribbon showed visitors how to wait for the Wild Reef elevators and some narrow hallways were at rare moments a bit like supermarket aisles. Indeed, reduced capacity did not mean empty, even with the Shedd’s 276,000 square feet of public space. (Sea Star Touch and Sturgeon Touch are viewing-only.) On Friday, after a couple hourly-admission groups had been let in, it was one of the Shedd exhibits to draw a crowd, relatively speaking, with several dozen visitors lining the long tank and a half-dozen groups and families waiting in socially-distanced line. Outside in a tent on the aquarium’s south patio, Stingray Touch is open, weather permitting, with guests asked to wash hands before and after. Friday, we’re told, was Annik’s first birthday. That was Mauyak with young Annik, still a darker gray. Dolphins and Beluga whales glided by just under the surface, one in a tight pair, a calf with its mother. On Friday, it seemed a bit like overkill with just a few families clustered up by the water’s edge. Walking paths in the sunlit space were tightly controlled, with stanchions marking Enter Here and Exit Only, with every other row of seats blocked off and dolphin decals on the stone benches showing visitors how to social-distance. The Abbott Oceanarium, where the Shedd previously held its dolphin and aquatics shows, was still open but without the shows. The Shedd will operate at 25% capacity, with timed entries capped at 375 people an hour previous capacity was 12,000 visitors a day, or about 3,000 at any one time.Įarly Friday, that meant open hallways, a murmur of voices and a chance to see the sharks in the Wild Reef exhibit without looking through handprints on the glass. The majority of the other games here are games I quite like, but I’m not sure I’d recommend them without knowing more about your tastes.įlourish in Progress: (T)hug Life: Part hood. I’d also recommend Portal and/or Portal 2 with the caveat that it’s a first-person game where you use the mouse to look and the keyboard to move, and I know that some people never quite get the knack of those. I’d strongly recommend Gone Home, Dear Esther, and Professor Layton. Resonance, Gemini Rue and The Shivah (the first and possibly game where you play as a rabbi) are particularly good. Here is Sony’s trailer for it: įor those recommending adventure games like Broken Age, Nancy Drew and The Longest Journey, Wadjet Eye’s games are very good games in that mould. Basically it’s Myst, in 2014, with a beautiful island and puzzles, but instead of the insane troll logic of Myst, each puzzle builds on the logic of the previous one. Sadly, I can’t for the life of me remember the name of this forthcoming awesomeness but you can probably find it based on that simple description. LOLīeautiful iPad game I didn’t see mentioned is LostWinds 2 Winter of the Melodias by Frontier. Several comments caught my attention, but this is my favorite “Pokemon Pearl ate my life” Sad but true. Syberia has this amazing steampunk-automata vibe to it. Longest Journey shuttles you between a slightly futuristic (but not gross and gritty) city and an awesome LotR High Fantasy styled world but with less slaying, more puzzles. We still pick up the new ones though I am “Grown Up”. I played the Myst games with my Da when I was a small child and the Longest Journey and Syberia (both are pc games) with my stepdad as a preteen. Very beautiful, involving, Myst-like games and they’re all point and click adventures (I get anxious with timed reaction things, even Portal). The Longest Journey series and Syberia are a bit old but they have newer iterations and are so pretty. If you get totally stuck on a puzzle (it happens to my supergenius astrophysicist doctoral candidate baby bro sometimes, so don’t feel bad) there are answers online, and all the games are casual enough to play a few puzzles and then put down, but engrossing enough that you can spend an entire day playing (I think). These have probably been mentioned already, but I’m really digging Professor Layton on the DS (or 3DS)- very cute and quirky and makes you go slightly insane only if you’re a completionist like me. Open anything that can be opened, look under anything that can be looked under, dig anywhere you pause. They tell you things you will be glad to know. You learn to talk to anything that has a mouth. I often found myself propping my eyelids open with my fingers at 3 AM, just to find out what was around the next corner. My son, five at the time, taught himself to type playing that game. Not pretty like Myst, but funny, addictive, and appropriate for all ages. He is immediately alarmed by Baby Colin’s perilous environment. Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), the vampire-slaying bodyguard of Nandor and reluctant henchman of the fanged friends, also makes his way back to the flamboyant home. Baby Colin’s instruction consists of literature and art deemed worthy and “not boring” by the snobbish dandy, while all other babysitting duties are ignored. What We Do in the ShadowsSeason 4 begins with the Core Four reuniting after travels abroad - Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and her talking Nadja clone-doll (also voiced by Demetriou), Nandor (Kayvan Novak), and Laszlo (show creator Jemaine Clement), who has been busy raising Baby Colin to be “interesting” at the manor. Shockingly, Baby Colin already feels more important to his housemates’ arc than he ever did as an elderly adult. He also still resides in a mansion full of old vampires. But FX’s irreverent comedy-fantasy-horror-mockumentary has just enough panache, low-brow hilarity, and consistent cleverness to strike the right balance with Baby Colin. This resurrection gimmick would not work in almost any other show. Just before the end of the Season 3 finale, a horrific neonatal version of Colin crawls out of his adult-sized self’s chest cavity - with Proksch’s face poorly superimposed on an infant’s body. What happens to him next as part of an ongoing Season 4 arc is the riskiest thing the show has ever done - and it pays off in spades. The soul-sucking bore perishes of “natural causes” at the age of 100 in the Season 3 finale, which is the typical expiration date for energy vampires, apparently.
